RE:RE:On the European Union VoteKensho
Yes you are right, the SNP want brexit so they can claim it was imposed on them and they hope to trigger another referendum. Baffles me as we only just had the independence vote, the SNP seem to think that they can call another referendum at intervals until they get the resullt they want. The SNP failed to get an outright majority in the recent Scottish parliamentary elections which took the wind out of their sails somewhat.
If there is an underlying issue with Scotland it is the land clearances that took place until well into the 19th century, the highland were systematically cleared and the lands grouped into large estates and awarded to the English gentry who still hold them today. The SNP, if running an independent Scotland would use the tax system to penalise excessive individual holdings to break up the estates - not entirely unreasonably given the history. The UK should acknowledge that the clearances were wrong and then they should use the tax system to break up some of the very large estates in Scotland, as the SNP would do. This would go a long way to ending the drive for independence. The problem is that Samantha Cameron's (PMs wife) Step Father is one of the largest English landowners in Scotland - clearly this adds fuel to the Scottish fire.
