I'm sure they were always confident in reaching 4N. I'm guessing they thought they would need more time to play around with the settings and sending it to this lab was the economically friendly choice for the time being. It's just a guess but the way this is shaping up it seems like they were expecting to hit a leadoff single but the ball sailed and went out of the park.
