I just did a quick look at the "key statistics" for Northland Power vs. Alterra.  Disclaimer, I don't know much about Northland Power.

It looks like Alterra Power is a better value across the board:
  • Lower forward P/E to Alterra 12 vs 21.88
  • Lower price / sales to Alterra 4.99 vs 5.86
  • Past margins are debatable if their is a winner...
  • Alterra is most likely growing faster?  revenue guidance 50%+, I do not believe NPI is growing revenue this quickly, thus the "strategic review"
It would be great for Alterra to get the valuation of NPI, however the market caps are 281M vs 4.13B.

We need actions which fuel growth and profitability, not press releases or happy talk,
