As well, I was wondering about these comments as of late regarding saturated sand - gravel 60m thick overburden being an issue ashore.
Had a look yesterday at the Victor open pit diamond mine in northern Ontario to see what the parameters were for mining. If I read things correctly the overburden at that site consists of muskeg overlaying silt and clays. The pit is protected by a ditch taking care of surface water and 40 - 41cm wells drilled to the mudstone (basement under the overburden?) 220 metres down arounf the pit.
So I infer from that info that DeBeers is dealing with a saturated overburden depth of 200m successfully and taking care of 60m at PLS should be doable.
