July 22, 2016 — To support Indigenous and public participation in the federal environmental assessment for the proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG Project, located in British Columbia, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) allocated an additional $247,008 to 17 recipients. This amount was provided to support participation in the final phases of the environmental assessment.

The following table outlines the additional funding allocated as well as the total amount of funding provided to date for the federal environmental assessment of this project.

This funding was made available through the Agency's Participant Funding Program. It enabled public and Indigenous participation in various steps of the environmental assessment of the project, such as reviewing and providing comments on the Environmental Impact Statement or on the summary thereof, the draft Environmental Assessment Report and the potential environmental assessment conditions, and material submitted by the proponent in response to the Agency's March 2016 information request.

The Proposed Project

Pacific NorthWest LNG Ltd. is proposing to construct and operate a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility and marine terminal near Prince Rupert, within the District of Port Edward. The Pacific NorthWest LNG facility would be located on Lelu Island. The proposed project would convert natural gas to LNG for export to Pacific Rim markets in Asia.
