Wigig will be exceptional in a single room like an awesome mancave but is not useful at any distance. You'll note in the article it would be used in conjuction with 802.11ac or in most case 802.11n would be the better choice. WiGig works in VERY close proximty to the user.

I do think you're looking at this the wrong way. You talk about alternative technologies being developed - the way I view YFI is as one of these alternative technologies - it's also the one that makes the most sense - wifi3 uses existing wifi standards that are used around the world. It's a simple jump for most to understand and invest in.
