RE:RE:Olympic Octopuss ee Tooling around StellaDoug, I do not have direct experience with these types of operations, however, from what I've been told (and this is limited) they will use the two tugs sitting just north of the FPF-1 to tow it to the Stella site (Tor Viking II and the Tor Balder) and then use the tug that is currently there to secure the beast. They will no doubt have a specialized crew on board who do this kind of a hookup (Olympic Octopuss). And by hookup I mean securing the beast to the anchors (I believe there are 12 but could be wrong). So basically the two tugs will hold the beast in place while the other tug does the hookup to the anchors and then sets up all the well connections. The first major risk is getting the PIG secured without encountering any freak major weather, and that is why they do it now in the summer when the weather is the least volatile. I do not know how long it takes to secure the facility but i suspect it is only a small portion of the 3 month time-frame that is required before first oil.
Perhaps there is someone on the board who has experience doing this kind of work and who actually knows from experience rather than reading some yahoo like me who has only heard third hand.
