Cobalt prices stabilise after rally as volumes thin

Cobalt prices stabilised last week, as the market consolidated after recent rises.

Low-grade cobalt prices remained at $11.95-12.55 per lb on Friday August 19, while high-grade prices held at $12.40-12.90. Traded volumes thinned after a recent flurry of activity, but several sources said that supplies remained tight. Some market participants said that finding material in the $11s had become impossible, while others still saw this figure as achievable, after a large tender – which could have been met with below specification material – went at around $11.75 per lb earlier in the week.
