RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Pre bids up on swy news?
RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Pre bids up on swy news? So, basically SWY in itself has not proven to be successful diamond exploration....with the exception of successfully drilling 1 km deep holes...a mighty feat to say the least.
SWY has tried to get others to do some exploration (NAR).
MPV has announced plans to M&A outside the diamond sector and spun out Kennady area...so MPV is not a bonafide diamond explorer..although they do have credit for the Gahcho Kue discovery in 1995. Shortly after that, De Beers took over and found the other pipes.
DDC seems to have cleared a path to consolidated ekati/diavik and try to reduce/optimzie costs..but have lacked any hardcore exploration programmes.
Jay pipe was one of the first pipes found at Lac De Gras...so that so far beyond consideration for the use of the term exploration.
So all the talk of M&A amongst the players (SWY, MPV, DDC) seems to be by companies not actively or recently successful in diamond exploration (MPV - 21 years ago)....DDC has been pseudo successful in consolidation..but that was mostly because BHP handed the opportunity to them...not the other way around. I suspect they might be just as good at M&A as they are at exploration.
Don't think you are going to see any M&A from any of these companies happen in the next 2 years.
It might just be smart for them to sit on their projects, collect cash flow, pay dividends, reclaim the project and call it a day.
PGD has been successful at exploration (Nanuq had some nice diamond bearing kimberlites) and De Beers actively has an exploration budget. Then you have the much smaller juniors (NAR,OLV,CVV,ADD) that are all going to strike out trying to hit a home run. Maybe one of them will hit a home run one day. Home runs don't happen every year in the diamond industry and sometimes only once a decade.
The best exploration opportunity right now is the lightly explorer Chidliak play.
There is more kimberlites to be found and a greater then 50% chance those kimberlites will have diamonds in them. You can't get statistics like that anywhere else at this time.
