They're selling Learjet because they don't have the cash to build the Learjet 85, without which the Learjet division is on the downtrend because newer competitor products are superior. Learjet's value to another buyer is a combination of maintenance of all the Learjets out in the market, and the R&D into the Learjet 85 with an interest in bringing it to market (or in the case of Textron perhaps an interest in the Learjet 85 NOT making it to market so as not to compete with their own products).
Global is a different story entirely. The Global 7000 and 8000 are in the latter stages of development and beginning testing shortly. These two products will reinvigorate the Global product line. They're tremendous aircraft that will generate substantial profits going forward. The slowdown in Global 5000/6000 sales is directly as a result of customers wanting the 7000/8000 rather than the older ones.
