RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Update on ASIS and AVO

RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Update on ASIS and AVOT64 - you got a pretty good read on things, though Genetec and Milestone are not "camera" companies, they are VMS companies.

The Guetebruck booth was small, and slow, they are better known in Europe than in the US, and have been trying to get into the US market for a few years.

I checked out Total Recall too.  Boring. It's an Axis camera and a recorder mounted in a steel box they designed. There are other configurations, but there was no invention there, just stuff bolted together.

You are right about the H3, ZERO signs of it in AVO's booth, but it is their best selling camera right now. Nobody could really explain to me what benefit the SL had overall. In some cases it may be very slightly better than H3 in terms of image in low light or very dynamic scenes, and it is a bit easier to install (maybe), but not clear why I would bother with something that only has 2 very basic form factor options (even if they are the most common form factors). I heard many dealers saying they'll stick to H3 cameras as long as Avigilon sells them.

Analytics royalties are not going to keep the company afloat. They spent $80M on those patents. OV was gettign 10 to 20 cents per channel for the licenses, and Avigilon seems to be getting about the same.  They will NEVER collect enough royalties to make that a profit center. I doubt the royalties are even covering the legal expenses of maintaining the program.

Look close at the fisheye camera, it is an OEM, not even full AVIGILON design. Is this the future of things to come? I don't know, it probably makes sense that they OEM'd this camera, everybody has one now, and there was little benefit in trying to reinvent that wheel.

I heard that AVO is going to be releasing a new Rialto, new microdomes, and a next generation of the multi-sensor camera soon, maybe this year, at least by ISC West. New mutlisensor will support analytics, that will at least make it stand out. Hopefully it is smaller too, Avigilons multi looks UUUUUUUGE next to Arecont's latest cameras.

I could not believe all the stuff in HIK booth and in their catalog. They are AVO's biggest threat right now.
