Wireless..
There's wireless that decouples you from a fixed position console but you wear a pack on your hip or shoulders or what have you, which still requires wiring. And there's wireless where your head supports everything and you have an antenna next to your brain. The signal strength to ensure high capacity low-latency throughput is not something you want 2cm from your skull. Let's also not forget we're talking about a dollar to solve significant data transfer challenges. No one is going to spend $100MM on R&D to shave $500/yr from production costs. Just consider the weight of an ipad mini on your head for two hours. I think you'd spend your money on getting that off your head instead of worrying about fanny pack with a DSP enabled connector.
