Reading a primer might be worth the time. I've found the Canadian convertible market to be extremely inefficient. I don't think of myself as a top tier investor, so it could mostly be luck mixed with the zero rate environment inflating a bubble in risky debt... but it strikes me that there have been some really good deals in this space, even for less risky issues.
Not long ago I was buying the Terravest 7%'s at a 10% discount to par. The YTM was over 10%.
Seems kind of silly if you look at their numbers. On the riskier side, IBI and Fortress Paper converts have been great investments. Rad10: I sent you a private message. No need to reply, just letting you know it's there in case you're like me and don't check.
