The USGS, has determined you need (7) requirements for of Lithium Brine Mine.
Dwight Bradley and others, "A preliminary deposit model for lithium brines," US Geological Survey, Open-File Report 2013–1006, 2013.(17)

Commercial deposits of shallow lithium brines beneath dry lakebeds have the following characteristics in common:[17]
1. Arid climate
2. Closed basin with a dry or seasonal lake
3. Tectonically-driven subsidence
4. Igneous or geothermal activity
5. Lithium-rich source rock
6. Permeable aquifers
7. Enough time to concentrate brine
Belmont's Kibby Basin/Playa, Nevada - lithium project meets and exceeds these. What I find are the most important is the vast (geophysical survey indicated over 13,300 feet deep) amount of water under the property and the fact that the property is in a closed basin (water comes in and doesn't leave).

Now the USGS has seemed to forgotten 2 more points - Lithium indicated on surface and high PPM Lithium in a large volume of water. Belmont has positive surface samples and has stated they plan to drill This Month Nov. 2016
