This is very good news from Dalradian, perhaps better than most non-technical people realize.
-
It’s great, of course, that the test stope delivered more gold than modeled.
-
That means the model was conservative and actual mining should deliver as planned, or better.
-
But the specifics matter.
-
This was a test of bulk underground mining methods that tend to work best on near vertical veins, and this test was on a more “shallow dipping” vein (not vertical).
-
That means this lower-cost method of mining will work even on the least ideal veins in the system, in terms of how vertical they are.
-
The fact that the stope was left open with almost no rack falling in means that the rock is “competent”, which means that the company will not have to spend so much money supporting it to keep working areas safe for miners.
-
-
-
In short, these results validate Dalradian’s mine plan, and suggest that the actual mine should deliver more and better than the conservative projections in the company’s feasibility study.
-
This is clearly value adding news.
-
-
-
We will note in passing that we’ve seen further reports of local environmentalist opposition to Dalradian’s project.
-
However, it’s clear to us that the opposition does not represent the majority of the people in the area, who are well aware of the economic benefits the mine will bring.
-
One small group, already dead-set against the mine, showed up at a public consultation meeting just so they could “walk out” and get their pictures in the local papers doing so.
-
This is nothing more than theatrics.
-
If there were widespread opposition, we’d be worried, but we’ve been on the ground, without company supervision, and we do not think that’s the case at all.
-
We’re monitoring this in case the situation changes, but for now, we don’t think the theatrics of a small group of ideologically opposed people are of great concern.
