RE:Whats all this about shorting?

RE:Whats all this about shorting? For argument sake, let's assume that 25% of the daily purchases are done in a margin account at any brokerage house.  If 200,000 shares trade that day then theoretically 50,000 shares could become available to be lent out by the borrow desk of the respective broker.  Not always the case but  I check borrow everyday and something seems to turn up.  Segregated accounts don't allow your shares to be lent out but I highly doubt every purchase of stock is made in a registered account.  New borrow always becomes available as different buyers and sellers enter the market.  That's why stock lending is so lucrative.
