I think he means that Neulion risks having these bigger players move in and steal their thunder. Neulion has no special moat around its business. Any organization with enough bucks can replicate Neulion's business model.
Everyone thinks Neulion will get bought out, but if an acquirer approaches Neulion for a takeover, and the Li family gets greedy and asks something like $10/share, then the potential acquirer might say "forget it, we can afford to build this platform ourselves, and put the small potato Neulion out of business". In fact, this just might be happening, and it's a risk one takes with Neulion, when over 50% of the company is in the control of just a handful of executives at Neulion (who are not known for being shareholder friendly, as witnessed by their lack of timely communication in the past).
Howcome, everytime the US media talks about OTT and streaming services - they mention BAMTech, Hulu, SlingTV and a couple of others... but Neulion never gets mentioned?
Personally - I think OTT and streaming is something that big will continue to grow exponentially; but I don't trust Neulion management to be able to navigate its way to the top of this heap. Maybe they can... but I'm not willing to risk 100% of this segment of my portfolio on just one company (Neulion), so have spread investment to other players in this area (not just Neulion).
One or two companies will win big... just don't be so sure it will be Neulion - that's not a certainty, and one shouldn't play their investment portfolio as if it were.
