RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:WOWIt does not matter if you are short or long if you profit from a trade. The question is if you used information that's not available publicly for that trade. Knowing that a company is about to sign a deal because you are advising them on it is insider info.
There is no way the regulators are not going to ask you questions if you loaded up on shares of a company you are advising or financing before the deal was announced.
