If I say "it has been two years since I have seen my sister", it doesn't mean two years starting from January 1st to December 31. It means starting on the same day you are speaking.
So on January 3, you can say it has been two months since the last NR from TMG. There is no distorsion of information there. It's the same everywhere in the world.
What is distorting facts is using the backlog accumulated the previous year to count this year's sales, while adding the last quarter sales (which will certainly be cashed in the following year).
We don't know what the company has sold lately for sure, but we must assume it is not significant (a bunch of small contracts or a few larger ones, or a mix of those), because if that were the case, they would have been really glad to tell the world about it. So they are like us, waiting for something good to happen...
