The government was not being very honest with management at the time. In fact, they were actively hiding the truth despite EV's many attempts to move things forward after the sanctions were removed.

That's what the lawsuit was all about and, in the end, management got the property back and added Jarandol and possibly now even Pobrdje.

At the time I was actively talking to people through an embassy contact who knew what was going on behind the scenes. They knew of the corruption and the back room deals. Others also canvassed their contacts and in the end, we discovered that the property was lost before it was made official by the government.

I doubt that any of us could have done better if we were in management's position at the time. If you can't believe the government staff that you need to deal with, there is not much that you can do.
