BAR (BALMF) Performance Reviewed I was recently looking at Junior Mining Explorers, and ran across the below article. It looks at 5 explorers – BAR(BALMF), Terra X(TXR), Pure Gold(PGM), Silver Crest(SIL), and Cordoba(CDB). Thought it would be interesting to see how BAR has stacked up over the last year and 6 month period (article was written on June 6,2016). I have been a buyer of BALMF over the last 2 years and still hold the stock.
https://www.mining.com/web/five-junior-mining-companies-creating-value-through-exploration/ So I grabbed some data from Yahoo Finance (I do not guarantee my accuracy). I assumed 2 different investment scenarios. One is a $50,000 investment on Jan 21,2016 the other is a $50,000 investment on June 6,2016 (the day of the article). Curious to see how the investor would have done in each of the 5 companies till now. The price of Gold on Jan 21, 2016 = 1101 (low point), on June 6,2016 (1245) and Jan 20,2016 (1210).
Well the results for BAR were not very impressive. I read a lot about the high quality management/staff that BAR has, but I don’t see it reflected in shareholder value. Below are the results with shares outstanding after the stock symbol. What is reflected in the Gain on Loss on the $50,000 investment.
Stock $50,000 $50,000
On Jan 21 On June 6
PGM (94.5M) $235,000 -$8,695
CDB (78.1M) $337,500 $8,125
TXR (100.6M) $90,384 $51,388
SIL (104.4) $51483 $89,338
BAR (125.3M) $71,739 -$6,923
A couple of things noticeable. Results vary widely based on when you bought in and I am sure the results would be different with different dates. However, given these dates BAR was 4
th out of the 5 in performance for the investor. I was surprised that compared to similar companies in their sector that BAR did so poorly. I hope that someone from BAR reads our site and can explain (LOL)? Also, I was not pleased with BAR being the most diluted at 125.M shares outstanding.
Any Comments?
