Cobalt prices move up further as investor interest continues to drive the market

Cobalt prices ticked up on Friday January 20 as investors continued to circle the market for opportunities.

Metal Bulletin’s low grade cobalt price assessment moved up to $15.75-16.5 per lb, from $15.5-16.5 per lb previously, while high grade prices also moved up to $15.9-16.85 per lb from $15.6-16.6 per lb.  Demand remained strong as Chinese New Year approaches, with producers, traders and consumers all reporting higher prices – although at least one market participant indicated that investors were mainly responsible. "What we’re seeing is that demand is solid and supply is limited," the market participant said.
