Crazy price fluctuations on virtually no volume?

Crazy price fluctuations on virtually no volume? I've been watching this stock on my watch list over the last several weeks as I'm looking for an entry point. Today around 12pm it was at 1.70 and that triggered a buy in my mind. I put a limit in at 1.73, splitting the spread of the 1.70 bid and 1.75 ask in hopes of someone falling into my order. I clicked send, went to order status, and the bid and ask shot up to 1.86 and 1.90?! 7000 shares changed hands and it shot the price up 16 cents. Is that normal for this stock? I mean don't get the wrong, this is a volatile sector and I've seen some crazy things over the last 2 years of being in it. But 5% or so of the market share changing because of 7k of volume?
