The Art of the News Release

The Art of the News Release
Full disclosure, I am not a basher, troll, or pumper... I am a longtime shareholder of FCU and have dabbled in several others during the past years making a modest profit. Yes two of the others was NXE and closely tied MGA of which I exited far too early. My bad.

I want to acknowledge something that has bothered me for quite some time and that is that whenever FCU sends out news it is followed up almost immediately by a NXE release usually the same day and other times a day or two later. It seemed to be a game of one-up-man-ship by NXE at first to ride on the coattails of FCU's initial success then after to upstage each others drill results. I decided to run a little research to prove that I was not seeing things or going crazy. I charted all new releases from the two companies from January 1, 2013 to February 9, 2017 using data from the news page from each corporate website as the source. I did not segregate any of the news out so it included everything from drill results to private placements and changes to governance. Also note that since FCU also trade on the European markets their news releases are transmitted around 2 or 3 am where as NXE releases closer to the open of the North American markets, therefore FCU always releases prior to NXE. I am also aware that companies are required to release pertinent news as soon as possible but I assume those rules too can be twisted somewhat. I am not aware of the whole marketwire news release process, how long it takes to post etc but the numbers are conclusive that it isn't coincidence in my opinion.

Here is what I have found...

FCU New Releases (Jan 1/2013 - Feb 9/2013)       210
FCU New Releases Same Day as NXE (0 since FCU Releases First) 0 0%
FCU New Releases 1 Day After NXE 0 0%
FCU New Releases 2 Days After NXE 2 1%
Total FCU New Releases Within 2 Days of NXE News   1%

NXE New Releases (Jan 1/2013 - Feb 9/2013) 149
NXE New Releases Same Day as FCU 39 26%
NXE New Releases 1 Day After FCU 24 16%
NXE New Releases 2 Days After FCU 13 9%
Total NXE New Releases Within 2 Days of FCU News   51%

Again I am not here to bash NXE, actually I complement them at being able to draw uranium investment dollars away from FCU. They have mastered the game, and owned FCU. I compare this to a hockey faceoff where one team or player is just that much better that their opponent creating an advantage for their side. I believe that NXE's mastery of the news release has negatively affected FCU's momentum after their releases. Well played NXE management! FCU management had better figure this one out, either drop this European listing or stop being so boring and predictable with their Monday morning releases. Perhaps shake it up with switching their public relations strategy or consultant? I do not know but what FCU has been doing but it is less than mediocre and needs improvement, I am tired of great news being wasted... and people do not even get me started with the fiasco of the Friday evening release of the maiden resource estimate.

In my opinion FCU has the most promise of any junior and I believe in the uranium story. I remain long but will not stand by and stay silent, there are opportunities for improvement and management should take action.
