RE:New Champlain bridge law suite

RE:New Champlain bridge law suite
Canam is a supplier of steel box girders for this project. It is not part of
Le Groupe Signature sur le Saint-Laurent who is initiating the law suit.

If any, it could be a positive if Canam were to get more $$$ for it parts.

November 24, 2016

After several months of work, the Canam-Bridges team is very proud to have delivered its first two steel box girders to be used to construct the approaches of the new Champlain Bridge.

The first of the two pieces measured 80 feet 4 inches (24.5 metres) and weighed 64.51 metric tons with a height of 11 feet 8 inches (3.6 metres). The second was the same in length, had a weight of 63.7 metric tons and a height of 11 feet 4 inches (3.5 metres).

The girders left the plant on Tuesday, November 22nd on trucks equipped with a steering dolly. The convoys arrived at the site around noon on Wednesday, November 23rd in Brossard, near the east jetty.

Both box girders will be erected over the next months at the east approach, which consists of a total of nine spans. The west approach, for its part, consists of 26 spans. Note that the total length of both approaches is a little more than 1.7 miles (2.8 kilometres) and that the total weight of the components manufactured by Canam-Bridges will exceed 55,000 tons.

The company will manufacture a total of 600 box girders for the construction of the new Champlain Bridge approaches. The components are fabricated and painted at the Canam Group plant in Quebec City and supported by subcontractors Marmen in Trois-Rivires and ADF in Terrebonne. Fabrication began in February, 2016 and is scheduled to end in the spring of 2018. Canam-Bridges recently completed the fabrication of 160 steel girders for the le-des-Surs Bridge which is also part of this large-scale project.
