RE:RE:RE:big stormFrom my reading of the first quarter sales numbers for the coal division-sales were reduced from their expected volumes. If production was maintained then inventories at the minesite and the ports would be above normal. I think this would be a windfall opportunity for Teck to sell into the spot market at elevated prices until their inventories return to a level where they can supply the bulk of their product at the contracted price for the quarter which as of today has not been announced.
The delay in signing the quarterly contracts were supposedly due to the cyclone. Now that the cyclone has come and gone and that there will be about a five week window until the Australian mines can ship again I think the second quarter sales and profits will be truly spectacular. There is a Teck conference call later this month which should provide some colour to the expected results for quarter two.
