Italys Reliance on foreign gas
There is remarkable oil industry news to come out of the East Mediterranean region. When the plan is executed, the balance of energy in Western Europe will be radically changed. In geopolitical terms, this will be immense; when the planned Israel-Cyprus-Greece-Italy gas pipeline is built, European countries will be able to cut their ever-increasing dependence on Russian gas supplies...Imports of Natural Gas in Italy increased to 1.33 Billion(US$) in January this year from 1.26 Billion(US$) in December of 2016. Imports of Natural Gas in Italy averaged 1.16 Billion(US$) from 2014 until 2017, reaching an all time high of 1.62 Billion(US$) in May of 2014 and a record low of .755 Billion(US$) in June of 2016.. Italys major supplier of natural gas is Russia; 51% of natural gas imports originate from Russia...The second most important exporter is Libya with 13% and Algeria 13%....followed by imports from Netherlands (8%) and Norway (5%).. In Italy natural gas is distributed for civil use (42%) and for industrial and thermoelectric uses (around 52%).Natural gas produced in Italy injected into the national network at 51 entry points from production facilities and from collection and treatment plants; natural gas storage facilities(e.g. SAN POTITO owned by ALEANNA) are also connected to the network.
