Many European cities with manufacturing centres are situated on Rivers.
Rivers have since the Industrial revolution been a wonderful means of transport.
Rivers connected cities and manufactures for decades before the truck and rail
Rivers are cheep
Rivers produce electricity
It just so happens that :
The Ring of Fire, Victor Diamond mine and the village of Attawapiskat are all on a river.
The river can produce electricity for the Ring of Fire, Victor diamond mine and Attawapiskat
The River can transport (with some well placed locks) ore to James Bay
James Bay is connected to Moosonee where there is already a ONR railway connection to every major industrial, mining, processing, manufacturing centre in North America.
Problem:
It freezes over in the winter.
Solution
Bubblers will keep the season open longer. and well placed timing for ore transport. This is already a reality in many mining jurisdictions.
How come nobody is even discussing this?
If China wants the ore then can get it from a new port in Attawapiskat (I hate this idea as it leaves the value added refining process and takes the financial benefit out of Canada.)
Why do we have to do things the hard way?
