RE:Aim Aim Double ShamePeople have to realize that Air Canada is the founding member of
the Star Alliance. Star Alliance is a group of dozens of airlines , and
they all have an agreement with Air Canada to use Aeroplan , which was
once owned by AC. Once AC starts their own new frequent flyer program,
the Star Alliance members will move over to the new Air Canada program. At that point
the Aeroplan program will be like Air Miles... you will accumulate points by purchasing
gas and buying groceries , and those points will be converted to a $ value , and seats on any
airline could be purchased. Those conversions are a lot shittier than airline owned programs.
At that point Aeroplan will have a tough time competing along side the Air Miles program.
there isn't room for 2 credit card based loyalty programs. The best case scenario is either
AC could purchase Aeroplan for its Infostructure , but the Aeroplan employee pay and
benefit structure is a lot higher , than if AC started from scratch. The other option is Air Miles
buying out Aeroplan... but they will want them cheap... like $2 . So they may bid their time
and swoop in when there's more blood in the streets.
