From a shareholder hunting info.... " I found stats on typical processing times for the applications once they are made special. Usually in months. On average they get 100-200 applications like this a year and deny 60-70%. This one passed and is approved for special application. Very special indeed". G8rJeff

The US application is being expeditied because the PCT application (which was filed in the Canadian Patent Office and designated the Canadian Patent Office as the International Search Authority) was examined and received a Search Report indicating patentability of the claimed subject matter.
It is basically saying "Look USPTO, the identical claims have already been examined (by Canada) and found to be patentable, you do not need to waste time and resources starting a search from scratch, you can use the International Search Report, so please skip my application to the front of the line so that these allowable claims can issue."

Dometech1, counter terrorism applications for sure is a real possibility, Patent fast tracked due to National security interests. Satelite surveillance , Drones, scopes ...all uses to help fight terrorism,.. I wonder what USA Military budget is ??? $$$

So the US patent is being expedited because of the status of the canadian patent? Not because some government office requested it? or the fact that it's holding back business going forward? I kinda get what you're saying but is there a problem or not?

I wonder whether option 3 may in fact be the reason for the fast track exemption. Remember Carey Wheeler is a military surveillance specialist and one of the verticals is drone and surveillance tech. Possibly there is sufficient evidence that this tech may in fact significantly improve counter terrorism efforts that it was fast tracked on that basis. Just a random observation G8rJeff

RE:The patent news is better than a press release! I apologize, I should have been more clear in my explanation of the basis for the Petition to Make Special. Whale is right about the traditional categories for expedited review of an application, but the Petition to Make Special in this case was based on the USPTO's participation in the PPH (Patent Prosecution Highway) program.
For a PPH request, an applicant need show that another participating patent office (here, the Canadian Patent Office, acting as the International Search Authority for the PCT application) has examined claims that are substantially identical to the claims pending in the US application and found them to be allowable. The claims are substantially identical, except the PCT application has many claims written in "multiple dependent" format, which is a shorthand way of claiming many different permutations.
As a result of the multiple dependent claiming, I see a problem with PCT claim 3 that will have to be corrected by amendment prior to it being allowed (it depends from claim 2, which is impossible because claim 2 is mutually exclusive to claim 3), but it is a simple thing to fix.

The US Patent Office just APPROVED the Blade Optics patent’s “Petition to Make Special”. It will now leapfrog other patent examinations and be accelerated to completion.
There are only a few reasons that this queue jumping would possibly be granted according to the USPTO web-site – The Petition to Make special may be granted if the invention will materially:
(i) Enhance the quality of the environment;
(ii) Contribute to the development or conservation of energy resources; or
(iii) Contribute to countering terrorism.

I’d say “No” to those, except perhaps (ii), but even that’s a bit of a stretch. There’s one other reason:
(a) Applications wherein the inventions are deemed of peculiar importance to some branch of the public service and the head of some department of the Government requests immediate action for that reason, may be advanced for examination.

That’s right, it can be given this status to jump to the front of the line IF THE HEAD OF A U.S. GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT requests immediate action.
Has the head of NASA decided that he wants to spend some of their $19.6 billion 2017 budget on a Blade Optics license to build the technology into every satellite, drone, rover, spaceship and ground based observatory? Does he need it patented right now so that he can get it into manufacture and into space ASAP?
The stock went up 12% today as the market woke up to this news, which hints at the patent now being imminent and a licensing deal waiting in the wings. Watch what happens when the first license agreement hits, with either the Government or private company. This is the real deal now folks.
