British Columbia NDP Green coalition

British Columbia NDP Green coalitionIt would be easy to misinterpret the results of this election and the voter preferences that underscored it.  The NDP’s desire to form the next B. C. government in coalition with the Greens may have real Faustian overtones. If the Greens had captured more seats or had they not been confined just to Vancouver Island, it may have carried more weight; but that’s not the case; and the NDP won only 41 seats not 43, as did the Liberals.  Even the Delphic oracle couldn’t render up a more inscrutable message. The NDP may think their time has come (after 4 successive Liberal wins) but really, is there any conclusive information to suggest this is case?  Such an argument would be more convincing had they won 44 seats or at least tied the Liberals at 43. The election result could just as easily have been about jobs and less an NDP phenomenon of their time in the sun.
No, this ain’t over ‘til it’s over. That old saying, “he weathered the famine well but lost his head at the feast may apply to this coalition and I think it’s a leaky boat!  A simple misstep, something rash, that’s all it takes to have everyone back on the hustings again. And if we find it really was all about jobs, I guarantee you the second result will be much different from the first.
