Sohpia says?

Sohpia says? one poster here says that "SLM had a news release prepared to update activities but BP quashed it." If this is true, what right do you suppose BP has to tell several listed company's that they cannot put out material news as required by the securities commission and the various exchanges. (In the process, encouraging false rumors to prevail) Since the earlier news releases were obviously false or misleading, at least with respect to drilling in Algeria, wouldn't it now be appropriate to advise the PUBLIC shareholders so that informed decisions can be made about buying or selling the stock? But then I guess if BP, or any other multi national, can do that....well I guess they could manipulate the stock (read CVL) down to unforgivable levels for thier own purposes right?
