The lake is only 7-20 feet deep, however, the underlying sands and gravels that extend from under the lake to under the 840W all the way past 1540W vary from 50-100 meters thick and form the local aquifer as they are water saturated, holding much more water than what is in Paterson Lake. the upper 50 meters of bedrock is weathered and fractured, thus is also charged with ground water. Most of FCU's high grade and the bulk of its resource is within the top 50 meters of bedrock. It may be that the cost of mitigating water flows renders mining not economic, even at $65/lb.
