Although a few years old, it mentions Robert Friedland having a research company 'ipulse', that he has invested in a company 'clean teq', and that Teck Cominco seems to have invested in ipulse.
Reading the various blurbs in the attached link, I can see that I have a lot of research to do, but this technology has been under development for at least 4 years. Read also the mentions of vanadium, scandium and titanium. These are metals Friedland thinks will be important going forward. vanadium for next generation batteries as mentioned in interview I posted, and scandium for manufacture of stronger and lighter metals for aerospace.
Not sure how close this technology is to commercial availability, but a lot of uneconomic mines/mining would become instantly economic.
