The future of Torstar and other Media CompaniesBe it good or bad, and we will recognize the bad ones, the future of organization like Torstar and PostMedia rests in the hands of wealthy individuals who hopefully possess enlighted and noble social values. That won't happen in every case (Rupert Murdoch being an example), but those who genuinely care about the future of democracy and social justice will be great stewards of these important organizations.
There was a time when newspapers were a license to print money and you'd have to be an idiot to fail. Godfrey and Honderich are of that generation. The ads rolled in and subscribers weren't hard to secure. Needless to say those day are long gone. New ownership and leadership is required to salvage what is left of these organizations. The Voting Trust lost its way decades ago and it is time for it to acknowledge that reality and head off into retirement (from what I am not sure).
