From this August 9, the Canadian company Gran Colombia Gold will initiate the temporary suspension of the contracts of those workers who do not attend their labor activities justifying themselves in the mining stoppage.

This determination would shelter about 1,400 employees and would only be executed for the duration of the demonstration, since the absence is putting at risk the financial stability of the mining company.

Gran Colombia Gold Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Jos Ignacio Noguera , confirmed that to date only 70 of the company's 1,530 employees, on average, are showing up for their jobs .

On the other hand, the governor of Antioquia, Luis Prez Gutirrez , announced that he will soon begin the preparation of a population census to advance the process of formalization, one of the motivating points of this protest.

According to Prez Gutirrez, with this census will be achieved a full identification of those who are really artisan miners in the municipalities of Remedios and Segovia, because in their view, many of the participants in these demonstrations, posing as artisan miners, despite Which have never exercised such activities.

It should be noted that the Mining Bureau of Antioquia's bite, which promotes this strike, reiterated that they will not lift the mining demonstration, which is already 18 days old, without first having a clear response and commitments by the national government to their demands.
