RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:72k Shares sold?I am not Romanian but live in Romania and I am an ESM investor. That said, Romanians are not stupid or backward and Romania is not a third world country. Microsoft is here,Oracle is here - there is a lot of high tech employment as well as the fastest internet speeds in Europe. Almost everyone under the age of 40 speaks English and a lot of Romanians speak 3 or 4 languages.
The history of mining in Romania explains the resistance and let there be no doubt, the GBU/Rosia Montana mine would use so much cyanide (the source of previous mine related disasters), would flatten 4 entire mountains and force the relocation of many people who do not wish to be relocated. Romania as an EU country must also comply with EU regulations and the EU is considering banning the use of cyanide in mining.
Eldorado Gold is working on reclamation and restoration and mining of a previous mine site disaster/cyanide spill (Certej) so that is a positive for mining in Romania.
Rovina has experienced no major protests since the Carpathian Gold days when much was still not known about the mine plan and mining methods. Rovina is not so far from Rosia Montana so it can be imagined that some people would make comparisons and draw conclusions without the knowledge and information available today. Rovina will be an example of a modern mine and mining methods but nonetheless will be massive open pits in a now pristine region.
Romania is identical in size to Colorado, has mountains in the middle like Colorado but is more green and lush. There are a lot of forests and protected land, historical sites and on and on which should be protected and preserved.
With all of that said, the government seems to be in favor of the Rovina mine (we will see for sure soon enough) and in all fairness, needed and needs to balance the pros and cons and desires of the population. I believe the license for Rovina will be granted/is forthcoming.
But...in the U.S. and Canada and most of the world, mines that are large open pits rather than underground are generally (if not only) found in remote locations like Nevada and Wyoming.
In more pristine locations, Banks Island, Northern Dynasty Pebble Project, Novagold Donlin Creek and Galore Creek - mines are protested, delayed, new mining plans developed and so on to protect the pristine enviroment.
Anyway, this is my view (relatively closeup) and hope it helps everyone to understand what is and is not happening here.
