RE:RE:Avigilon Blue, a New Subscription-based Cloud Service@old dude and t64...
likely all of what you said. Gov is accustomed to paying for maintenance and upgrade fees to video , card access... software. What I see gov not doing however is moving to cloud. Security does not want to be on the cloud for simple and perfectly sound reason that you lose control over your data and open yourself to hacks.
Sadly, private business does not currently appear to have that conscious.
I see avo avo moving to the cloud as a big mistake for gov sales. Gov sales is where the majority of long term money resides. Avo was a camera manufacturer and as such could have played the part of an independent producer of widgets and let others integrate as they see fit. They still can be that but they also appear to be wanting to branch out and be this big security company.
Many compaanies are looking for the nickel and dime approach of fees and that is their call but avo like any camera manufacturer must make sure they focus on cameras and that they can play nice with other card access or software companies. The lose that benign aspect and continue to try and go it alone in offering total end solutions and they risk being killed by much bigger fish.
maybe it works and they become so powerful that they can tell the big companies that employs 400, 600 thousands employees and are worldwide to go pound sand and that they are the new big boy. Personally I do not see that happening and the reverse occurring / avo being put in their little box and cut out of most big markets. Chinese hack stuff is to cheap for avo to compete with so they must be high end. That means they must compete with extremely large companies and that is tough, very, very tough. They would need their fifty million profit from building just to pay for sales and marketing each year!
I havnt seen any new WOW cameras from them in years. Analytics is nothing special and i think they are ( thankfully) using something like briefcams analytics.
If they stuck to cameras, they could then sell to ALL the software and card access integrations companies. Let those companies decide how they package to their particular markets. Like what panasonic and Pelco did for decades and did very well I might add. They appear to be wanting to be this all inclusive company and I just do not see that succeeding.
To put it in very simple terms, They could be a tire manufacturer to all vehicle makers or try and be a new car company and compete with GM,, Toyota etc
if you were starting out in a global business, what do you think would be your safest choice? You may just be thinking the same thing as me!
