Make your bets please.
Either scenario, some big changes are required. Deep rooted cultural changes would need to take place layered with national pride. Very, very difficult.
Alstom is a effectively a crown corporation. The French are very nationalistic about this and the model is tied to SNCF.
Just as the stumbling blocks were discussed with a Bombardier collaboration with Siemens, the French will have the same, plus, plus, plus ...
So as you have a nation wanting to protect Alstom, or Siemens, in Bombardier's case, its the 'family' - and some of QC - vs. 'Canada'. I don't think Canada as a whole could care less about where Bombardier's rail unit ends up. 50% of the posters on this forum have stated a wish for it to be sold and sent off to China.
What likely needs to happen? Bombardier, Siemens and Alstom need to all align together if they really hope to give CRRC a run for its money. That scenario boggles my mind in its complexity ...
Back to my first comment. This is all speculation and nothing more than a 'bet' at this time. Politics is over half the equation With Siemens and Alstom for sure and some with Bombardier, and that in itself makes any merge alignment and likely a long way off.
