RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Avigilon Blue, a New Subscription-based Cloud ServiceOld dude, here is a classic example of why, nothing of value should ever go on the net
yes it’s not sexy or avantgarde but that’s security. Remember who got hacked  Deloitte isn’t some smal company.  Lots of holes in today’s systems and every day, it actually becomes easier to penetrate. Why? Because stuff is released so fast and technology changes so fast and there are so many pieces that leak like a sieve.

what is so secretive about video or card access one may ask. Well there are names of people and where they work, what floors, card numbers that are easy to clone, their true identity, spouses name and details, medical issues that are often noted, cell phone numbers that can then be hacked, images of people together in a lobby that may be politically sensitive, what car they drive and it’s licence plate.  Lots more I can detail but I think I made my point.   Then there is the issue of using a hole in some switch to leak info out or that can be exploited to gain access to other departmental info.     No, I firmly believe avo should step back from trying to be some global solution provider.  The more you dabble in technology, the greater the resources needed to TRY and stay abreast. Departments stop talking to each other or in the desire to issue a release, the new widget isn’t properly vetted.  I have seen this time and again.
if they stuck to making a really good camera and let others fiddle with software, they won’t “wear” the blame for some future hack AND all they would not be a competitor for all the other companies who integrate cameras into the software they sell to big departments.  They have a great security edge by producing cameras in North America,  hiring some foreigners to write software IS a very dangerous game. Trust me.  It’s not talked about for politically correct reasons, but it’s a big concern.
Avo could be a nice and efficient maker of top quality cameras.  Just like what got them all the attention five years ago.  They stood out, head and shoulders above ALL the competition.  Today?
