The Board of Directors of Compagnie Minire Montagne d'Or decided to strengthen the governance of the company by appointing a new Chairman. Pierre Paris will take up his duties in Guyana on October 16, 2017. Current Chairman Rock Lefranois will continue to share his experience as a member of the Board of Directors of the company. Igor Klimanov, Director of Development Projects at Nordgold, said: "The Montagne d'Or project will play a very important role in Guyana. The development of the project must ensure opportunities for the local population and stimulate the development of the economy and infrastructure. We would like to thank Rock for his tireless work, we hope that he will share his solid expertise as a member of the Board of Directors We are delighted to welcome Pierre. His experience in France, Eastern Africa and Australia will allow to accompany the development phase of The Montagne d'Or project ". Pierre Paris has more than fifteen years of experience in mining. He has worked with the most important players in the mining industry: Rio Tinto, Vale and BHP Billiton. Recently, he has been the general manager of the Vale Group's "Lucy" and "Kwe" projects in New Caledonia. In this role, he led the feasibility study for these projects, secured major permits, supervised the construction, commissioning and upgrading the first tailings plant filtration units, the main plant and project infrastructure. Previously, he worked at Rio Tinto's European Ore Division where he was responsible for the start-up of the operations on the Simandou project, a world-class mine project in Guinea, integrating construction and operation of this high-tonnage mine, the construction of 670 kilometers of railroad tracks and a deep-water port. He has also worked for the Rio Tinto Group as the head of two mines in Western Australia (Tom Price and Western Turner Suncline). Pierre Paris is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Suprieure du Petrole et des Moteurs and holds a master's degree in geology from the University of Paris-Sud. The Nordgold Group has become the majority shareholder of the Montagne d'Or Mining Company, controlling 55.01% of the capital. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on September 14th between La Compagnie Minire Montagne d'Or, Columbus Gold and Nordgold, establishing the rights and obligations of both partners in the organization of the management and development of the Cie Minire Montagne dOr. The Board of Directors was elected on the same day. About Montagne d'Or : Montagne d'Or is an industrial gold mine project in Guyana, designed according to a responsible social, economic and environmental approach. Its stakes are multiple: economic opportunities and the creation of thousands of jobs for the territory, training courses for the craft industry of the modern industrial mine, rigorous environmental management and dialogue with all the local actors.
