Geology - Limestone

Geology - LimestoneI learned something new recently about Chidliak.

You will see reference to limestone occasionally with regard to the pipes.

Apparently there was a layer or some overburden of limestone in the area and when the volcano came to surface it scooped some of that on the way and then when the volcano settled back down, some of the limestone was mixed in and settled into the pipe.

The original limestone in the area has all been sheared away by glaciers and time....so there is no sign of limestone at Chidliak except in the pipes themselves.

I guess on theory...that would mean you would get less limestone occurence as you get deeper into the pipe?

anyway...something new to ponder.

LONG...PGD
