Agree with your calculations on FFH and who bought the shares. Watsa isn’t spending his mad money on this indulgence. He has a fiduciary responsibility to all his shareholders, not something shared by the Voting Trust.
Im not sure it is going to go out at $10, but would be delighted if it did. I’m sure Fairfax has calculated the value with post-acquisition adjustments and can afford to pay north of $6/share. Honderich and the Voting Trust will need some oversight on the editorial direction of The Star to save face and keep them off the streets. It will be toothless but will give Honderich the appearance of importance which is more important than money. He can hobnobb with the former governor-general and lobby the government to fund journalism. All harmless amusements.
Extreme may be experiencing some post-Torstar partum depression but I don’t think it’s too late at $1.40 to recoup some of those losses. No guarantees but you have to know Fairfax isn’t finished at 40%.
