Aphria Inc. APHA

Aphria, which is headquartered in Ontario, produces and sells medicinal and recreational cannabis. The company operates through retail and wholesale channels in Canada and internationally. Aphria is a main distributor of medical cannabis to Germany and has operations in over 10 countries outside of Canada. However, it does not have exposure to the U.S. CBD or THC markets due to the constraints of federal prohibition. It has some U.S. exposure through the acquisition of SweetWater, a craft brewer

Aurora Singing a different tune about US Investments

Aurora Singing a different tune about US InvestmentsCam Battley told reporters that the combination of ACB and CMED would make its rival’s business “sing”.  If anyone is singing a different tune these days it is Cam Battley and not CMED.

Aurora and Cam Battley (otherwise known as Aurora’s head VP of Cheerleading) came out strongly against Aphria’s position in the USA earlier this summer.  Instead of supporting Aphria they talked publicly about how they had no interest in going into the USA.

Aurora went as far as to issue a statement that they had a condition in their stock listing: If the company engages in any activity outside Canada's medical framework, it must file a legal opinion from a lawyer in that country saying the company is not engaging in an illegal activity, then seek the TSX's approval before any deal can close.

Its interesting to note that CanniMed’s subsidiary SubTerra LLC, which is incorporated in Michigan and owns a 35K sq. ft. production facility and office space with an additional 19K sq. ft. underground growth chamber.  I can assure you they aren’t growing barley, wheat and oats in Michigan.

When questioned earlier today on BNN about CanniMed’s USA investment, the best Battley could say was that he was under advisement by legal counsel not to discuss Aurora's current plans for CanniMed’s USA assets.  He goes on to say they have a plan, but they are not disclosing it.  It should be easy, just produce a legal opinion from a lawyer in Michigan stating the company isn't engaging in any illegal activity and then get the TSX's approval of the transaction based on the legal opinion.  Maybe not so easy after all.  Now I know why you were under advisement earleir today to not speak on the subject.

Not to worry Cam, Cannimed is onside with the TSX.  Their subsidiary in Michigan, Sub Terra  isn't a cannabis comapny, they are a plant based pharmaceutical manufacture.  It says so, right there on their web site.  No violation here.  Everything is good. wink wink.

Watch for Aurora to invoke what has become known as the Trump defence.  It must be true, it clearly says on their web site they are a plant based pharmaceutical manufacture, no mention of cannabis.

Seems like it is Battley who is now “singing” a different tune.  Play us a song Mr. Piano man.
