The 2018 "Cleantech Directions" report has some interesting insights into this from the perspective of 470 Cleantech companies that were surveyed about their current challenges, barriers to market entry, or getting financing. I'm glad to know that CST isn't the only company facing these kinds of challenges:

We are in politcally difficult times: the public is hugely ignorant of the technolgy´s potential benefits while deep pocket players are setting the media agenda toward alt energy & hydro vs pipelines.
There´s also the massive shakeout under way in the petroleum industry as demonstrated again this week by petroleum mega divestments in Norway and Brazil.

Despite the obvious need for carbon capture, which we here all agree on, the market timing is still not right. We could spend cash we don´t have now for no media traction. Our fortune´s could change quickly, but it´s not happening right now.
