Coined Lightyear SmartStream, the product is designed to provide integrated services to small and medium sized business customers less expensively and more flexibly than is possible with incumbent carrier services. Lightyear Communications embarked earlier this year on the construction of a nationwide packet-based backbone network capable of delivering a rich set of voice and data services to business subscribers over broadband access facilities using equipment provided by Accelerated Networks. Ahead of schedule, Lightyear has established service in eight major markets across the US including Louisville, Ky.; Cincinnati; Indianapolis; Newark, N.J.; Atlanta; Cleveland; Boston; and Santa Ana, Calif.
