Aphria Inc. APHA

Aphria, which is headquartered in Ontario, produces and sells medicinal and recreational cannabis. The company operates through retail and wholesale channels in Canada and internationally. Aphria is a main distributor of medical cannabis to Germany and has operations in over 10 countries outside of Canada. However, it does not have exposure to the U.S. CBD or THC markets due to the constraints of federal prohibition. It has some U.S. exposure through the acquisition of SweetWater, a craft brewer

RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:TMX Group Provides Update Regarding Regulatory EngagementI think there is a good probability cannabis will be rescheduled from Schedule I to schedule III within the year in the States.
There is pressure from a lot of different directions to free things up to allow R & D, clinical trials and legalize medical cannabis and legitimize the industry’s commerce.
Sessions has appeared to soften his stance lately in public and there does appear to be growing support in Congress. Some interesting court cases are in play also for the right to medical cannabis across state lines. I do not believe Trump would initiate any move but would not get in the way of others making law to make it legal medically.
I do not see the Feds making cannabis legal for recreational purposes in the near future. Hope they write a new law though that Fed resources will not prosecute recreational cannabis at the state level.

So if Aphria does want to expand the US market to include rec........could actually complicate the medical side. Once medical is legal in the states this would allow legal transportation of product across state lines and potentially import/export.

Recreational cannabis in the US may not be a market we wish to be associated with with the current legal framework. I would pursue medical only at this time.
