Is the EV one of the biggest marketing scams of our time? The other day i really thought about the energy sector, contemplated the EV, lithiumIon batteries, tesla, and the like... and i thought, the EV has to be one of the biggest marketing scams of all time, and Elon Musk, one of the greatest marketers of all time, second only to Steve Jobs.
The entire process of producing an electric car consumes equal if not larger amounts of fossil fuels than a combustion vehicle. Mining the metals for the batteries, shipping them via massive heavy oil burning ships, all the plastics that go into the vehicle, energy to keep the plants running, and not to mention charging the cars (gee i wonder where that energy comes from?)
All of these are supported by big bad fossil fuels.
It makes me wonder, why is it that the end consumer is left purchasing a new vehicle to clean up the environment ? While the manufacturers are the ones consuming and burning fossil fuels at a far greater rate than the end consumer yet are profiting off of all this EV green energy hype?
I agree though that the battery technology is evolving because of this, bringing new investors and minds together to help, but i see this as a long, long time away from having and realy significant impact on fossil fuels.
Thoughts?
