In recent times, several generations of Camagey people attend different sites in our city, thanks to the establishment of public Wi-Fi browsing areas for access to the services offered by the Network of Networks.
Certainly, the strategy for the development and projection of new information and communication technologies (ICT) is a priority in the country to promote the computerization of Cuban society.
If we establish a comparison between the reality we enjoy today and the panorama of 2013, the date on which the first steps were taken to develop this policy, the advances are remarkable.
There are already more than 650 navigation rooms and more than 500 existing Wi-Fi areas in the national territory, while the number of subscribers to mobile telephony is increasingly growing, and the achievements in terms of institutional connectivity are also noticeable.
The people of Camagey, for example, enjoy several facilities that offer services in favor of healthy recreation and computer culture, among which stands out the Technological Forest, a space that prioritizes children and young people, and first of its kind in Cuba. Internet connection through navigation rooms and wireless network.
The work of the Young Computer and Electronic Clubs is also praiseworthy, which from various educational platforms such as La Mochila, offer alternative educational content to the so-called "package", and other cultural domination tools promoted by the foreign audiovisual industry.
For its part, the CubaEduca platform of the Ministry of Education, in addition to providing books and classes in digital format, is a timely initiative for the guidance of teachers, students and parents.
As one of the most significant current achievements in technological matters, the efforts to extend the Nauta Hogar service to the population stand out, a project that will increase its capacities gradually during 2018 in the province of Agramontina.
However, the computerization of society imposes many challenges, including the improvement of the capacities and infrastructure for Internet access, technological obsolescence, the development of software and the application of a security policy for cyberspace.
The responsibility in the handling and distribution of the information, in turn, becomes imperative of the current society for the strengthening of the digital culture of the population.
In this way, Cuba joins the need to introduce in practice the sustainable management of ICT as one of the essential characteristics of the contemporary world, in pursuit of a social development committed to a prosperous and sustainable future. (Photo: Archive)
