RE:RE:10:30 AM EST, 01/17/2018 (MT Newswires)Lithium extraction of this nature is based on pumping water through material laden with minerals to turn it into a soluble form, where it is then pumped to the surface and evaporation returns it to its mineral form.  You want material where the minerals have not bonded/mixed with the sediment well so that when "washed" with water the minerals are converted to a soluble form that is easy to extract.  Picture the difference between trying to pump water through sand versus pumping water through clay.  One flows readily and the other just makes mud.
